Istanbul Basaksehir betting

Istanbul Basaksehir Odds

Considering this is one of the Super Lig’s youngest clubs, Basaksehir has a fairly decent and consistent history of success.

Especially since their latest promotion to the top flight in 2013/14. Many are already calling them the fourth big club of Turkey, mostly because they’ve placed into the top 4 for the past 6 seasons. This string of strong performances was crowned last year with their first-ever championship title, unexpected as it was. By now, they’ve even won their first Champions League fixture.

In short, it’s a young club with boatloads of potential. Needless to say, expectations are high – but the big 3 will be dead set on preventing them to snag more titles. Perhaps that’s why top sportsbooks price another title at 13.00.

This implies either a considerable drop in form or an incredible opportunity to get some value out of Super Lig betting.

Istanbul Basaksehir Key Players

Easily the biggest standout on Basaksehir’s squad is winger Edin Višća. As the fifth most prolific striker of the 2019/20 Super Lig season, he is easily one of the team’s most valued assets.

This season, though, he’ll be joined by Monaco’s Nacer Chadli on the left wing. Giuliano is another newly-added attacked on the squad, though he mostly plays as a midfielder. Lastly, Lyon’s right-back Rafael may form an interesting combination with Višća while beefing up the already formidable defensive line.

In between the powerful wings, another player that should be mentioned is Irfan Can Kahveci in the central midfield. Mert Günok is also one of the league’s most sought-after goalkeepers.

Istanbul Basaksehir Rivalry

Being from Istanbul and among the more successful clubs in the country in recent years, Basaksehir are getting closer to a full-scale rivalry with the great three, though until they actually win the Super Lig a few times, it’s hard to imagine them earning the level of enmity Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas reserve exclusively for each other.

Istanbul Basaksehir History

Istanbul Basaksehir is also known as Medipol Basaksehir for sponsorship reasons, but it was first established in 1990 as Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor. They competed in the Regional Amateur Football League in their maiden season and earned promotion to the TFF 2. Lig (the third tier of the Turkish football system).

They moved frequently between the third and second tier in the six years that followed, until they established themselves as a stable team in the TFF 1. Lig from 1997. Ten years later, they reached the Super Lig for the first time, and apart from 2013/14, they’ve been there ever since.

Their results quickly became very good even in the top flight, and after that season in the 1. Lig they haven’t finished below fourth place, which means they’ve constantly been involved in European competitions. They haven’t yet managed to reach the group stages of the Champions League, but they did get there twice in the Europa League, the second being this term.

Apart from the two runners-up places in the league, they’ve also played in two Turkish Cup finals, and though they’re yet to win a major trophy, if they keep going like this, it’s only a matter of time.
