Espanyol Rivalry
As Barcelona based club the main rival is one of the biggest clubs in the World, Barcelona FC. As a famous and dominant side, Barcelona have made this derby less interesting, even though ideological differences could heat up the atmosphere at the stands, especially at RCDE Stadium. This is the longest and Spanish football top-flight derby and for seventy years Espanyol have managed only in three occasions to finish season above Barcelona in the standings.
Espanyol History
Espanyol is founded in 1900 and it is the first club in Spain found by Spanish lovers of the football game. The team colours are blue and white chosen by shield of admiral Roger de Lluria, who protect interest of Crown of Aragon in the Middle Ages.
In over a century-long history, Espanyol won Copa del Rey in four occasions, but never have had opportunity to celebrate league title. The Blue-Whiteis reached final of the UEFA Cup competition in 1998 and 2007 and in the last one final were defeated by city rivals Barcelona.
