Stade Reims Odds
Though Reims are known for spending 33 long years out of France’s top-flight league, they’ve been steadily improving the results over the recent few years. They were placed 6th in the previous season, losing out the fifth place to Nice due to goal difference. Their success is in part attributed to manager David Guion who helped the team get promoted from Ligue 2 in 2017.
This lack of consistency makes them a bad choice for wagers, however. The Ligue 1 outright betting odds don’t favour them – top online bookmakers price a Top 3 Finish at 15.00, which is longer than at least half the other teams. Relegation doesn’t seem likely either.
Stade Reims Key Players
Les rouges et blancs don’t seem to rely on a consistent strategy either. In practice, this means that standout players can be found in all parts of the pitch. Arguably, their most valued player is goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic who’s had a remarkable season behind him. However, the most important part of almost every attack was the left-back Hassane Kamara, and Reims recorded the highest percentage of attacks down the left flank in the previous season. Kamara left the team for Nice, which leaves their lineup in a precarious position.
Thibault De Smet was brought as a replacement, but his youth and relative inexperience make it hard to rely on him. As such, attacking midfielder Mathieu Cafaro and centre-forward Boulaye Dia will be left to do most of the heavy lifting in terms of goal-scoring.
Stade Reims Rivalry
Stade Reims are not exactly known as a club with notable rivalries. Not with teams from Ligue 1 at least. However, Stade Reims are involved in what’s referred to as the Derby du Champagne-Ardenne. It’s a three-club rivalry which involves CS Sedan Ardennes, Troyes AC and Stade Reims as the most prominent club of the three.
Champagne-Ardenne is an area located in the northeast of France. It was an administrative region which today remains known for its white wine. When it comes to football, however, the Derby du Champagne-Ardenne is a low-key local rivalry which is not in the same category as nationwide derby matches, such as Le Classique for example.
Stade Reims History
With six Ligue 1 titles in their trophy cabinet, Stade Reims are widely considered one of France’s most successful clubs. The Red and Whites also have two Coupe de France titles and five Trophee des Champions trophies.
Stade Reims are perceived as a legendary football club in France. Such an esteemed reputation was earned during the 1940s and 1950s when Stade Reims provided for the French football’s golden age with some of the most notable names at the time such as Just Fontaine or Raymond Copa, to name but a few. Moreover, Reims was the site of the crowning of the French Kings, which is a historical fact which gives this city a prominent status in French folklore.
Stade Reims are a far cry from the club they once were but the glowing reputation remains and so does the nationwide respect towards this club.
